Beth Shalom:
The Liberal Jewish Community Munich
The Liberal Jewish Community Munich, Beth Shalom welcomes the
arrival of its first full-time Rabbi in the fall of 2006 with joy.
Dr. Tom Kucera will be one of the first three Rabbis to be ordained
in Germany since the Shoah.
At this decisive point in its development Beth Shalom can reflect on
more than 10 years of achievement: The congregation holds regular religious services in the liberal
(progressive/reform) tradition. Women and men enjoy equal rights in
all aspects of Jewish life. In addition to Shabbat
services, monthly children's and family services with babysitting
are held.
Beth Shalom offers state-recognized religious education
from grade school through Gymnasium. Adult education classes
transmit the Jewish religion and values.
Our young adults have a local chapter of the nationwide organisation
'Young and Jewish Germany' (JuJ). For our young people between 10-15
years Machane is offered twice yearly.
Beth Shalom's Choir
embellishes Shabbat as well as High Holiday services.
We celebrate all Jewish holidays and lifecycle events together in
our synagogue rooms: from Simcha Torah to Chanukah, from the Purim
Megillah reading to the Passover Seder, from a Baby Naming or Brit Milah to a Wedding Ceremony.
Beth Shalom members volunteer their
time for the important Mitzva of the Chevra Kadisha. The New Jewish
Cemetery in 'Waldfriedhof' is supervised by Beth Shalom.
'Chaverim', our Circle of Friends, supports the further development of Liberal
Judaism in Munich through its cultural and ecumenical events. |
